PEPSI: "Live for now moments anthem".

Updated: Jun 11, 2020

Do you know what the most valuable asset of brands and companies is? - Of course, is their reputation

They must keep this as best they can.

However, some companies decide to position themselves or talk about significant social or political issues and as we will see below, does not always succeed

The announcement shows Kendall Jenner leaving a photoshoot to join a tone-deaf protest (where there is not a specific message, just join the conversation signs and peace and love symbols) in which she succeeds in suppressing police action by offering a Pepsi soft drink to a police officer.

CRITICISMS OF THE ADVERT

The ad was considered "offensive" and "insensitive" for using images very similar to those experienced on numerous occasions in the United States during racial protests, and for using social justice movements to sell its product.

The announcement was interpreted as a lack of respect and banalization of the "Black Lives Matters" movement.

REAL EXAMPLES

The best-known critic was Bernice King, daughter of Martin Luther King, who published a photograph of his father at a protest being pushed by a police officer.

The moment the model stands in front of the security fence, it refers to the photograph of Ieshia Evan, a nurse who peacefully confronted riot police trying to end a protest in Louisiana. Although she did not use violence, Evans was arrested on that occasion. So people got much angrier since they compare one scene to the other.
